What Would HRM Do When the Robots Start Dominating at Workplace

Definition of Robots

”A reprogrammable, multifunctional manipulator designed to move material, parts, tools, or specialized devices through various programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks.” (Robot Institute of America, 1979)

The TV series called Night Rider in 1982 indicated that a car can talk and drive by itself without human intervention. People were glued to TVs and start to think if this the future is going to be whilst some others were arguing it’s fiction by creating an illusion in the human mind.

It has not taken many years to become that a reality in common day context as most of the carmakers is building automated and auto driven cars. Laws have been drawn to tables to discuss the legislations of legalities to produce driverless cars by 2021.

The imagination of history is becoming a reality in the future.

How Destructive is the Appearance of Robots to Corporate Environment?

The entry of AI (Artificial Intelligence) into the workplace has been aggressive in recent years and indicates a significant increment in involvement year by year. Researches by Oxford University believes that 47% of all jobs can be completely taken over by Robots within the next 17 years.

This means that the existing working cohort needs their skills to be sharpened to win the challenges ahead of them.

What would happen to HR Affiliation if the HR Process gets Automated?

The impact is to see which HR practices to get automated and how that will impact the overall business.

e.g. Robotic automation will take only 48 hrs to go through 72,000 candidates’ documents which will consume 10 individuals' involvement for two months. It's evident that robots will do an effective job.

Further, remuneration, recruitment, training, and development areas also to be evolved with an AI interface that will test the skills of existing employees.

This indicates how badly AI will impact even the HR department. So, the AI intervention will barge into all departments whether we like it or not without an invitation.

HRM Diversification

The identification of true talent and defining important job roles requires human intervention. Focusing on the importance of technological involvement at the workplace and to define the integration of AI and HI (Human Intelligence) which requires adopting the change by educating employees.

What are the elements introduced by HR to take care of these modern trends?

Ensure staff motivation by engagement in order to secure the best talent that the organization is holding on to. Plan R&D for employees who require skill enhancement. Make awareness programs on how the AI could increase productivity and how employees should take it to count which will eliminate the unwanted fear of AI.

So, will the AI Create a Redundancy Overall at Corporate Environment?

The anticipation was to create job redundancies when the industrial revolution took place. However, innovation and technologies evolved generating new job opportunities and led the industries to different dimensions by opening new ventures.

Yes, there was a job retrenching took place by bringing employees to difficulties. The job availability did not stagnate, instead, it grew up in vast capacities.

    1. Thanks, A more optimistic view is that the rise of robots is the harbinger of economic prosperity and a major spike in job satisfaction. This view is based on the belief that robots entering the work place will bring with them plenty of jobs as well

Employee Learning

People Management in an Organisational Context

Managing People and Organisations Aim of this introductory blog entry under the parent theme of this blog site 'HRM' is to first introduce the concept of people management. Management is defined as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling organizational resources effectively and efficiently to meet the goals of the organization's mission and vision.  Organization is defined as "a system of consciously coordinated activities or forces of two or more persons" (Barnard, 1938, p.73 cited in Mahoney & Gabor, 2010, p.12).
